Bognor Regis Club Instructors Gain Promotion

Congratulations to the following Bognor Club Instructors, who successfully graded at Petersfield on Sunday 16th November 2008.

Possible Change To Junior Session Training Times

We have been given the opportunity to look at the times the Club opens for training. This has allowed us to consider the possibility of changing the junior session to the earlier time of 6.30pm until 7.30pm (on the mat). This will allow our younger members to get home at a more sensible hour after training and also we hope allow us to attract more junior members.

We would then run the senior / mixed session from 7.30pm to 8.45pm (on the mat), as we do at present, again allowing members to get home at an earlier time, but also allowing us to have an extra hour training later if needed.

Before we make a final decision on this change (probably in the new year), we need to find out if the members and Parents would find this useful or if we would just end up loosing the members we have.

A newsletter will be handed out to parents this Monday at the club.

Zen Judo Family Gradings - Petersfield April 2008

On Sunday 20th April a number of the Bognor Club student and Instructors, travelled up to the Zen Judo Family (ZJF) gradings at Petersfield Zen Judo Club, for Green belt through to Black belt.

Bognor Regis Town Council Awards Grant To Club

Bognor Regis Town Council has once again shown its support, by awarding the Club a grant.
The cheque for £300 was collected by Yvonne Robertson on behalf of the Club, at a presentation held at the Town Hall on 28th January.

BRZJC Chief Instructor Promoted

On Monday 4th February Sensei Phil Watts 6th Dan ZJF and Head of the Zen Judo Family paid a visit to Bognor Zen Judo Club.
During his visit he promoted the Clubs Chief Instructor John Robertson to 3rd Dan.

Sensei Watts officially presented John with his Dan Grade Certificate at Horndean Zen Judo Club on 6th February, while John was visiting the club as an assistant instructor.

Bognor Zen Judo Club - Awards 2007

On 17th December 2007 the club held its final training session of the year, cleverly disguised as the usual games night. Due to the number of students taking part it was decided to split the students into three teams, this made for a much more difficult time, as traditionally the result is normally a draw. Luckily after a very lively evening the result was declared a close draw.

It has since come to light that due to some creative cheating by the senior grades (as usual), the Chief Instructor has had to declared all results null and void.

The evening was also marked by the presentation by Chief Instructor John Robertson of certificates to mark the following awards for 2007.

Alex Barnes received a certificate for the student with the highest attendance this year.

And Amy Taylor was awarded the McCarthy Student Of The Year Certificate.
This is the first year that the McCarthy Student Of The Year Certificate has been awarded and all the Clubs Instructors felt that Amy had consistently shown the correct Zen Judo Spirit, both in her technique and etiquette on the mat.

It was also nice to see Sarah back on the mat once again (even if only in a limited way at present) after her unfortunate accident at the beginning of the year, hopefully 2008 will see her finally on the mend and back to full training.
